Games Night 19th June 2018

This week 5 of us played a game of

by by Fryx Games
this included the two newly acquired expansions:
and
We played on the green Elysium board.

The corporations chosen by the players were:
DA (YELLOW) invested in Martian cities with:
KV (BLACK) had the money when it came to Earth with:
LP (RED) had floater power with:
MC (BLUE) benefitted with relaxed requirements with:
PH (GREEN) could double up actions with:

In a game where things like oxygen, temperature and water levels needed to be increased…oxygen, temperature and water levels were indeed increased.
And in style.
In tandem to the stiflingly hot evening, the temperature was maxed out at +8 degrees centigrade first, followed by the oxygen levels. 9 water tiles quickly followed suit.

LP backed the Industrial and Benefactor awards. He attained both awards with MC getting 2nd place. MC backed the Venuphile award for himself with LP getting 2nd place.
KV reached the Legend milestone.
LP attained the Specialist milestone.
MC made it to the Ecologist milestone.

Final scores:
DA: 47
KV: 63
LP: 65
MC: 63
PH: 52

Well done to LP for being the bestest terraformer there is. Runner up went to MC who had more money than KV so won the award of being the first loser.

Games Night 14th June 2018

We had two games nights this week.
This time LP and MC had a quick game of

by White Wizard Games
Where LP managed to build his forces up early and pummel MC into submission.

By that time HG had made an appearance and so we played:

by Pandasaurus Games
Again we played the medium game with no Plot Twists.
More patrons were fed to escaping dinosaurs and purple hooligans had fists shaken at.

After all that excitement, the final scores were:
HG: 46
LP: 92
MC: 103
It took four attempts, but MC finally won at his new game!!!

Games Night 31st May 2018

This week the evening started a little earlier than planned with HG popping round for a quick 2-player game of

by Cryptozoic Entertainment
We’d had an impromptu couples of game previously and she defeated me in both games at 5 Last Wizards to 1.

This time, I gave no quarter and won the game undefeated.
By this time LP, KV and PH had arrived. HG bowed out and left us to play

by Rio Grande Games
We played on the German side of the map and quickly got busy bidding for power stations, purchasing fuels and building installations in cities.
KV got in an early lead, with MC dragging his heels at the back.

MC eventuality caught up, leaving LP in the dust, but had his awesome powerfulness cut out from under him at the last crucial moment by KV who deliberately and maliciously bought more barrels of oil than he needed leaving an insufficient amount on the shelf for MC to buy and power his epic power station. LP thought this was a hoot.

Final scores:
KV: 17 cities covered with 17 cities powered.
LP: 15 cities covered with 14 cities powered.
MC: 18 cities covered with 12 cities powered.
PC: 18 cities covered with 18 cities powered.
The winners award goes to PH for, erm, winning.
The Kaaaaaaaaahn!!! award goes to KV.
The Nelson Muntz award goes to PL for laughing at MC’s plight.

UK Games Expo 2018

On Friday 1st of June 2018, I returned to the UK Games Expo at the NEC in Birmingham.

I had a very specific list of things to get.

First up, I managed to get ahold of the Terraforming Mars expansion

which provides two alternative boards on which to play to increase game diversity.

Next up, I picked to the two Abyss expansions
and
making Abyss a 5-player game with more stuff to do.

One particular item I really was hoping for was

thankfully I did find a copy, which I believe was the last one available in the entire Expo! Even one of the guys at the stall I purchased it from thought they’d already sold out of it (they only brought 4 copies). I then spotted it and didn’t let go.

Another expansion was for King Of Tokyo

so that all my monsters now have power cards, not just the ones from the expansions I’ve already picked up.

I then picked up a second expansion for Terraforming Mars:

which also allows the terraforming of Venus by using another terraforming tracker (this one’s not mandatory so shouldn’t extend the game time too much).

At the Dice Tower booth I picked up two promo cards:

Which was very nice. I even saw Tom Vasel in one of his hats.

After a little more wandering we stopped for lunch.

Then made our way to the DogEared Games booth, where I spotted the guy who sold me the StakBots decks last year. This year he got me interested in playing Colour Chess against his colleague.

After completely destroying him, we picked up a copy:

Back to awandering we spotted the Catan Sheep

Giant version games, including 7 Wonders, Ticket To Ride, Colt Express and Takenoko

We visited the good people at GeekNSon and picked up a couple of items.

The Wargaming section was most impressive, all those sets are amazing, particularly the Battle Of Hoth

During the wanderings I also picked up

and

The we once again passed this stand

and bought a copy.

In the Catan section we had a sit down to play

with two chaps called Gavin and Garath.

During the game we used our newly acquired GeekNSon Dice Tower

So many people came over to ask where we got it from.
Gavin won.

We did some more wandering and saw some stuff:
The family zone with games to be played on nearby tables.

The GeekNSon Crew:

And just a few games stalls:

The last game we picked up was

Shortly before it closed, we made our way out.

That was a lot of fun!

For a closer look at the things we picked up check up the video I did on the subject:

Games Night 22nd May 2018

A very warm welcome to LP who found us through this website.
LP arrived fashionably early and so we had a quick game of:

by White Wizard Games
LP quickly developed his strength and hammered MC, but MC had invested heavily in the Trade Federation and was able to regenerate a lot of authority.

In the end MC was victorious dealing a solid 23 point blow to LP.

With all players now present we played:

by FryxGames

This time we played as named corporations with:
KV being in charge of
LP was CO of
MC attempted to run
PH performed as head honcho of

This time round, it appeared that being able to breath was the highest priority with the Oxygen levels reaching 14% first.

Next up, Mars sported its ninth body of water.

Closely followed by a much warmer temperature.

Three Awards were funded: Thermalist (MC), Landlord (LP) and Miner (KV)
Three Milestones were claimed: Mayor (LP), Gardener (LP, and Builder (KV)

Final scores:
KV (Yellow): 56
LP (Blue): 73
MC (Red): 56
PH (Green): 54

Very well done LP!!!
